A Passion for the Animals
All my life, I have loved animals. I have always wanted to make a difference in their lives. While we love to design and produce quality sportswear for you to enjoy, our main objective is to promote awareness and to make a difference in protecting animals. Developing My Second Passion for Clothing Design
I operated my family’s retail clothing store, The Andover Shop, in Back Bay, Boston for 25 years. During this time, I developed a deep passion for clothing design and the retail clothing industry as well an an appreciation for quality, a flair for color and the importance of customer service in this competitive market.
And Olly is Born!
I am fortunate to have these two passions and I needed to find a way to blend them together. I knew that I wanted to open a premium quality clothing company and I decided that I would help raise awareness and partner with organizations that help protect animals. I needed an animal mascot for the new clothing line. One day, while we were designing our clothing items for our new brand, by happen chance, a friend shared the novel, “The Soul Of An Octopus” with us and it all clicked. As a Gloucester, Massachusetts based company, surrounded by ocean, this was perfect, and Olly was born.
Why is Olly purple?
As I put a Purple Heart Forever stamp on an envelope one day, I started thinking about my father who had earned a Purple Heart during his military service. It occurred to me that the Olly story really began with my father and the purple heart meant something more than it already was. Olly has three hearts which I think are probably purple like in color and he deserves a Purple Heart every day just for staying alive.
Olly became my alter ego with his three purple hearts and as many as eight brains. What a contrast! In as much as I’m a conduit between my father and Olly, Olly is the conduit between all of us (humans) and animals.
A portion of our profits is donated to Olly’s partner organizations.
